Good bye Eskom thanks to SomeWatt Solar When my wife & I decided to invest in a Solar solution for our property, we first did our homework and got advice from Electrical Engineers regarding the design. (I'm in the Commercial Solar Industry myself). When the design was completed, I started getting quotes from various companies. The best quote that we received was from SomeWatt Solar. The company owner, Dean Esau, came to visit and inspected the rooftop, (got onto the roof himself) and checked the best place for the installation. Deal struck, deposit paid and then the short wait (about three weeks for some equipment to arrive) before the Big Day! Installation day arrived and the very professional team from SomeWatt Solar got busy to do what they do best - Domestic Solar Installations. End of day one and we used some of the newly installed batteries to power up the installation through the Inverter that night to go without any loadshedding..... Day two and the Team was back to come and complete the PV side and with them came their Engineer to test for the COC and fully commission the entire installation. Two days - done and dusted. We had some in-between check-in's since then from Dean (that also monitor the performance of the system remotely) to point us in the right direction regarding the optimal use of our system. For sure a pleasure to do business with Dean and his Team from SomeWatt Solar. I can recommend and rate their service as professional and efficient. Hat's off to Dean and his Team!!
My experience with the company has been exceptional from start to finish. Dean, the owner, recommended a solar system for my home and promptly gave me a personalized quotation to suite my needs. I am currently saving 90 - 95% of my electricity usage on a daily basis. Initially hesitant as you may not find many reviews on the company just yet, justifiably the company is fairly new, but he has been in the industry doing installations for many years already. I did my research on solar systems and got quotations from 5 other recommended companies on google, but when you speak to Dean, you can tell he is thorough and a highly knowledgeable and a fully qualified electrician, not just another salesman. His inspection of the site was detailed, he raised important questions and tested things in my home, that none of the other 5 companies did. He even measured/calculated how much wiring he would need so he could order and charge me per metre used (not just buy a box of 100m, charge me for the box, and then take home the other 50m that doesn't get used like most contractors do). I so was impressed and was sold by the time he walked out already, but the "proof was in the price"... Dean went and shopped around with his suppliers to find me the parts that were needed. Unlike other companies that charge you a standard fee for this battery, and a standard for this inverter, etc... I was given the best price to buy the items at present so he managed to save me more money. SomeWatt Solar quoted me R40000 cheaper than any of the other companies with comparable system specifications. Yes there were cheaper quotes, but those were inferior systems. Installation took a snappy 3 days to complete with no compromise on quality. Dean's attention to detail resonated well with my level of perfectionism. Minor superficial issues, that I didn't even notice, he made his guys redo and correct so that things were also cosmetically perfect. A neighbour of mine, who's a qualified 3-phase electrician, even came to check out the system and was impressed by the price and that everything was in order and compliant. Dean provides an excellent aftersales service, even during his off time following up to make sure everything is still running smoothly, the system is working and I have been happy. My review is honest and truly a reflection of my experience with the company. I would criticize if there were things to complain about, but it's only fair to give credit where credit is due, and they really did a good job. I am ecstatic to be saving so much on electricity costs daily (and not even realize when there's load-shedding until my neighbours complain). To end off, find attached a few pics of my installation at home. You cant see all the panels from the pic, but there's 18 in total on my roof (the 2 horizontal ones are from an old solar geyser installation). Yesterday I only bought a measly 3.5 Units of Electricity from the grid, and today 3.1 Units. Right now, my 3 geysers are heated, the pool is warmed up to a perfect 34 degrees with our 19Kw Pool Heater for this evenings swim, my battery is fully charged and ready to cook tonights supper + evening TV time; and then to last us all through the night for our lights, phones charging and 3 fans running (the entire night) for the summer heat, all while the sun is down...
After getting frankly crazy quotations from a "big brand" solar company I was referring to Dean the owner of SomeWatt Solar who replied to my email the very same day and arranged a site visit the very next day. We agreed on a way forward and I accepted the contract an order was placed for the hardware to be delivered the very next week and installed the week after. Everything went perfectly according to plan apart from a bit of rain pushing out the timeline and had his guys on site a little longer than expected to ultimately get the job done in about 2 1/2 days. Dean was overseeing the entire job personally and was on site a number of times throughout and did the final hand over and inspection himself before signing off. He has checked in with me frequently after installation and came out once more following the install to check on a minor issue I was having and so I'm already planning upgrades for next year. Highly recommended.
After multiple failed attempts to get a company out to give me a quote for solar I did some Google searching and came across Somewatt Solar via a MyBroadband Forum. After reading through how happy the client was on the forum I sent an email through to Dean, the owner, who came out to see me the following morning. He had a look around and we discussed the best option, and I received the quotation that same evening. As it turns out he had done a job in my road a while back had just had another quote accepted also in my road. Over the weekend we went to see the other person and on the Monday we gave the go ahead and paid the deposit. Over the next week or so all the components were delivered to the house. Installation commenced a week ahead of schedule and took three days. Dean’s team worked very well together and their work was neat and tidy. We ended up with 18 x Solar Panels, an 8Kw Inverter and 3 x Batteries. The system has been up and running now for almost two months and is performing better than my initial projections. We have had plenty days where we have not had to use the grid at all. Overall we use maybe a unit or two of grid power per day. The best part is that we have not barely noticed the current loadshedding. I am very happy with our decision to go solar and would highly recommend Dean and Somewatt Solar.
SomeWatt Solar was recommended to us by our neighbor. Dean promptly answered our enquiry and came out the very next day to assess the options of solar panel installation on the roof and placing of the inverter and batteries in the garage as well as the size of each of these components. After considering the various options, we asked for a quote on the most suitable option. We had enquired at several other Solar Power companies within our immediate area and in the greater cape Town district. Only one company replied and only with standardized options and pricing. None of these companies came out for an assessment of our house. The quote from SolarWatt was competitive compared with information we had got from others who had installed a Solar Power System. After accepting the quote, a date for the installation was fixed and planned for a duration of 3 days. Dean kept to the installation date and the complete system was installed and up and running within the scheduled time. The team was very hard working and cheerful all the time. They were meticulous and their work very neat. Dean oversaw the installation and did a final check when it was completed. After the installation everything was cleaned including the wall on which the inverter and batteries are installed. During the entire procedure, both Dean and the team answered all questions that arose and were most patient at doing so. Dean still answers any questions we might have about our Solar System both promptly and expertly. He can also monitor our system with the Solarman Smart App which he programmed and set up on his and our mobile phones. It was a pleasure to have Dean and his team at our house. We can highly recommend them.
I am long standing customer of SomeWatt solar. Actually one of their first if am correct. I initially had a very small setup and upgraded over time. As many of us do I have done countless research and had a number of vendors supply me with quotes including comparing these to other geographical locations like jhb or dbn. What I can say about SomeWatt solar is that their prices are extremely reasonable. 2nd they itemize their quotation which means they extremely transparent and honest. 3rd their workmanship is impeccable. 4th their after sales support is second to none. Dean provides expert advice and guides you on things you sometimes don’t consider or aren’t entirely clued up on, which is a huge help. There are now many installers and guys who claim to know what they doing but good luck with them. The money we outlay on these systems is immense and I would personally rather go with an installer I can trust and know is going to be there after the job is done 🙂
Very impressed with Dean the team at somewatt solar. Excellent communication and competitive pricing. Trustworthy installers. Highly recommended.
